Typical Applications:
Nichrome 80 is also known as Nichrome V, Chromel A, and other names. Nichrome 80 and nichrome 60 are pretty much interchangeable for heating applications. Nichrome wire increases in resistance a little as the temperature increases and nichrome 80 changes less than nichrome 60 so is more applicable for resistors in electronics. The 80 also has a slightly higher melting temperature and maximium operating tempreature. Since nichrome 80 has no iron, some prefer it for vaping. Nichrome 80 is a little more expensive than nichrome 60 so for normal heating purposes such as foam cutting, plastic bending, film cutting or sealing, etc. the 60 is usually used. For wrapping around tubes or similar heating applications, the ribbon wire may be better since it lays flat and has more surface area to transfer heat with. There are unlimited other uses; anytime heating with electricity, nichrome is the most common wire used. Here are a few more: heaters of all kinds, ovens, hair dryers, resistors, rheostats, current-temperature controls, model and high power rocket motor and recovery ejection charge ignition, pyrotechnic ignition, electronic cigarettes, laboratory inoculating loops, release mechanisms, kiln heating coils, ceramic support in kilns, and many others.
Packaging:
Small quantities of small diameter wire is either coiled and sealed in a plastic bag or wound on a plastic card and sealed in a bag. The largest gauges are also just coiled and secured with wire ties or cable ties and sealed in a plastic bag. The rest is wound on plastic spools using either our manual traverse wire winder or our computer controlled (NC) winding machine.
